Tech in Gov: Week One

Lots of interesting noise on government technology issues in the social media space this week. A big issue for governments will be cloud computing, as well as green IT so with weekly announcements like Microsoft's announcement yesterday on Azure, governments will be trying to figure out what the government cloud looks like and how to take advantage of virtualization and other technologies to drive down costs and save energy.

Governments are finding new uses for Twitter such as these from Washington State.

If you haven't already seen it, don't forget to take USA.gov's survey on social media.

According to Foresee, the best government websites are making substantial improvements and customer satisfaction is improving. Average government websites are, however... well, still average.

The Smart21 Communities of 2009 will be announced tomorrow.

Seven major banks to receive half of the Treasury's expected bailout.

Here's a site I don't remember visiting before: InterGovWorld.com

I'm really excited about the new Google Earth app for iPhone. Seems like something government can leverage.

Thank you for posting a link to the survey. We've seen a tremendous response to it so far. I'll be sure to notify you of the results when they come out.
