The voter system in Wisconsin is the latest casualty among HAVA projects. Looks like it will be resolved and the state will recover $6 million from Accenture. Just last week, the Ohio Secretary of State ordered Cuyahoga County to scrap a $21 million voting system.
This GAO report reviewed the experiences of nine states.
It would be nice if all the voter list maintenance and verification processes were available as re-usable web services. The processes are not restricted to a given state, but must interact with data from other states and the federal government as citizens move from state to state. And how much exchange between this data and the data used to produce the census estimates which show Nevada, Arizona, and Utah as the fastest growing states in the country.
