A CTO for the USA?
There is an interesting discussion on Larry Lessig's website about the need for a CTO for the federal government. The discussion offers up more questions than answers. Some of the discussion centers around the defunct Office of Technology Assessment. I used to read their publications back in the eighties and many of them were excellent. Like some of the other respondents, I was a little upset when they eliminated it. Others, such as PZ Myers and Mark Hoofnagle have also called for the office to be restored. In the meantime, Congress has granted GAO increased capabilities to perform technology assessment.
