Open Source

Matt Asay wrote an interesting article in Infoworld last month, summarizing state government CIOs' opinions about the use of opensource. The article summarizes the results of a poll on opensource taken in the last NASCIO meeting. It seems that there is still significant interest among the states in the use of open source software. There are many good alternatives available where open source can provide invaluable solutions. I am currently using dotProject to manage our new CTO projects. Here are a few other solutions that look very interesting right now:
  • Pentaho (open source business intelligence solution)
  • Mule (open source Enterprise Service Bus messaging framework)
  • SugarCRM (open source contact manager solution)
